British School in Tokyo chooses SMART
Extensive evaluation by teachers leads to installation of 26 SMART Board interactive whiteboards
TOKYO, JAPAN --- October 26, 2006 --- SMART Technologies Inc. announces the installation of 26 SMART Board™ interactive whiteboards at the British School in Tokyo (BST). Eleven SMART Board interactive whiteboards were installed at the BST Showa, upper school, and fifteen were placed in the BST Shibuya primary school facility, for the start of the new school term. The contract and installation followed two years of extensive classroom testing by teachers and students of various interactive whiteboard brands. The SMART Board interactive whiteboard was selected as the best solution for the school’s education requirements because of its ease of use and the suitability of SMART Board software for all grade levels.
Located in the center of Tokyo, the BST is the only British school in Japan. With over 500 students, the school’s mandate is to provide a broad and balanced education that follows the English National Curriculum. SMART’s office in Japan worked closely with BST staff to provide the best integrated learning solutions and training to meet teachers’ needs and the school’s rigorous technology requirements. Now teachers and students at BST have access to interactive digital learning materials, including websites to supplement lesson plans.
“I am pleased that the British School in Tokyo has chosen the SMART Board interactive whiteboard for their primary and upper schools,” said Fumiki Hariu, representative director of SMART Technologies (Japan) Inc. “They were particularly impressed with SMART Board software and the Gallery, which includes 5,000 pre-loaded images (Japanese language version), backgrounds, audio, Adobe® Flash®and video files.”
“International schools around the world are adopting SMART Board interactive whiteboards to engage students and deliver interactive lessons,” says Nancy Knowlton, SMART’s president and co-CEO. “The comprehensive review process conducted by the British School in Tokyo demonstrates their commitment to excellence and to using best products for their classrooms.”
